Anti-rant

I feel, after being so nasty about the DSS the other week, that it is only right that when they deserve it I give them some kudos.

Today I revisited the matter of the National Insurance Number, armed with enough paperwork to make the trees around me shiver with fear. They guy who dealt with me was very friendly and explained the whole procedure very well. He filled out all the forms and told me if I haven't heard anything within a certain time period that I could call him personally. All very nice and friendly.

It's just a pity that couldn't have happened 3 weeks ago. Silly man! Anyway, another thing to cross off the to-do list and move on to the next.

Funny Story

So, I saw this story in The Times this morning and really I just had to have a good laugh.

For the last few weeks the papers have been full of articles about how we're all fatties, we're unfit and we need to get off our fat asses and do something about it. Not only that, our kids are fatties too. And the government is being bashed over the head with these statistics and ordered to sort out the problem. Then, McDonalds, spurred on by falling profits and the increasingly waist conscious society, decided to do their bit. They're bringing the McSalad to the UK market. Hurrah! I hear you cry..... but no it is not good news.

In fact, the chicken caeser salad, if you order it complete with dressing and croutons has more calories AND higher fat content that the standard burger. Without the dressing, the calories do drop but the fat content is still higher than in the burger. So, they bring in this healthy option for those customers who don't want to have the fatty burger, but the healthy option is worse.

Damned if you, damned if you don't.
