A Bad Combination

Last night myself and Jamie went for pizza. (Chambers on London Road do a 2for1 pizza deal on Monday evenings.) We were there with a guy I work with and his girlfriend. We had a good evening and a few beers. Now for most people that would be the end of the story....

When myself and Jamie got home things were ok. There was a bit more chat from himself than I usually get, but this is easily expolained by the beer intake. However, when I went to bed, things took off - and I'm not talking about the nuaghty stuff. Jamie was really giddy, like a 5 year old child. He would not let me lie down and go to sleep. He was even using teddies as puppets to distract me from trying to sleep. For the first few minutes it was funny, cute even. But after 15 minutes of this crap I was actually getting cranky. I couldn't understand it, it's so unlike Jamie.

He did finally calm down and I did find the root of the problem. Earlier in the day, before meeting me in the pub, Jamie had a half pack of Refreshers. These fizzy sweeties are like sherberts, which we know have mood enhancing properties. I believe, the combination of the Refreshers and the beer caused Jamie's behaviour. Jamie is now banne dfrom shervert and sherbert related product.

No News is Good News...

You may have noticed that this site doesn't change very often. Well the sad fact of the matter is I don't have a very interesting life. I get up, go to work, come home, repeat daily....

In recent times any gaps in this routine have been filled with me being a Domestic Goddess. (I believe this turn of phrase was coined by Nigella Lawson, I fell bad using it as I've never bought any of her books, but I'm sure she won't mind.) It is a great occupation actually. I have found a real sense of achievement from cooking and cleaning.

The problem comes from the cooking side of thing. I tend to cook quite alot yousee. For example, a couple of Sundays ago (Sundays are good for cooking, not much else happens on that day), I cooked a giant fruit crumble, soda bread, a vat of soup and meatballs for an army. "What's the problem?" I hear you say.

Well, the problem is, Jamie is only one man. After a day of my cooking there is enough food in the house for us, and a select few friends, to survive a nuclear holocaust - structural changes need to be made to our building of course but I was strictly speaking in terms of supplies.

This weekend, I employed the clever art of freezing. Instead of one large crumble, I made two small ones and froze one for use later - I can do a "Here's one I made earlier" moment at some point in the future. The bonus, of course, with the freezing, is that the nuclear holocaust can happen any time and we have the supplies. Whereas, previously we would have needed the holocaust within 3-5 days in order to benefit from our stock :-)

I also made chilli this weekend. I'm working up to a stonking hot one. The first was a bit tame but I blame the Good House Keeping Institute - I used their recipe, not advisable if you want stonking hot. Last night's was quite nice, but I think it needs a bit more if a kick. If anyone has any advice it's greatly appreciated. Michael Barry any advice you have could you keep to yourself, I remember some meatballs that nearly caused me to go blind they were so spicy. You are at a level (with spices) that I'm not ready to go to.

So you see, my life has little or no excitement, now that you've been bored by the goings-on in my kitchen.
