Second Driving Lesson
Progress.... Yesterday was my second driving lesson and I'm coming on leaps and bounds - if I do say so myself. Initially, we recapped on last week, practiced changing gears and left turns (at junctions). I proved quite good at this - although sometimes forgot about the steering when trying to change gears or stop.
Then we did some right turns at junctions - which are infinitely harder. Ok. Slight exaggeration, I was finding most of it hard to take in, but did manage to turn right at a junction without killing anyone or landing the car in a wall.
And then.... the instrctor guy suggested I drive us home. AND I DID!!!! Oh my God! I was on main roads, took on roundabouts, the whole lot. I drive through Shirley High Street. At one of my more confident moments I discovered that I could be a hardened criminal...
[Hilary - cruising along at a 33mph]: Should I change to fourth gear now?
[Instrcutor]: No, Hilary, this is a 30mph zone.
Pause
[Instrcutor]: Hilary, you might want to ease off the gas there so that we're going just under thirty...
At least I'm not afraid of 10mph anymore. Now to find the happy medium...
Finished reading The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffeneger at the weekend. This is without a doubt the best book I've read in some time. It's a love story with the added twist of time travelling - but it's not a sci-fi book...
