Second Driving Lesson

Progress.... Yesterday was my second driving lesson and I'm coming on leaps and bounds - if I do say so myself. Initially, we recapped on last week, practiced changing gears and left turns (at junctions). I proved quite good at this - although sometimes forgot about the steering when trying to change gears or stop.

Then we did some right turns at junctions - which are infinitely harder. Ok. Slight exaggeration, I was finding most of it hard to take in, but did manage to turn right at a junction without killing anyone or landing the car in a wall.

And then.... the instrctor guy suggested I drive us home. AND I DID!!!! Oh my God! I was on main roads, took on roundabouts, the whole lot. I drive through Shirley High Street. At one of my more confident moments I discovered that I could be a hardened criminal...
[Hilary - cruising along at a 33mph]: Should I change to fourth gear now?
[Instrcutor]: No, Hilary, this is a 30mph zone.
Pause
[Instrcutor]: Hilary, you might want to ease off the gas there so that we're going just under thirty...

At least I'm not afraid of 10mph anymore. Now to find the happy medium...

I didn't use a starter kit. Several other propblems with my tonsil meant I got the removed. tonsil stones are no longer a problem.

My suggestion, gargle like it's going out of style!!!

hiya - on the tonsil stones you mention...I've been Googling and found your blog, thought I'd add my 2 cents from what I've found out. I'd been bothered by them for the past year or so, finally figuring out what they were a few months ago. I use the Therabreath products - and they work, but I still can get "stones" in one deep crypt on one of my tonsils. But now that I know what they are, once I start getting a fowl taste in my mouth, I know to go investigating and ...uh...scrape it out. I went to the doctor also - which you should do - just so they can make sure it isn't an early sign of tonsil cancer (are your tonsils swollen all the time now?) and such. But - I use Biotene toothpaste (the therabreath stuff I was allergic too), the Therabreath mouthwash to gargle with in the morning and at night, also at night I gargle w/ some warm water mixed w/ baking soda (it's not that bad and works wonders). I'm about to try the Therabreath nasal drops which my doc said were fine...since moving to Arizona I've had trouble with my sinuses and she said to try the Therabreath stuff first instead of going on antibiotics. So - it's worth the money to try Therabreath, or the Biotene products. Just make sure not to use Listerine or anything w/ sugar or harshness as it makes it all worse. Best of luck...just Google "tonsil stones" and you'll find a lot of info.

I'm wonder why any of you are actually buying products to get rid of your TONSILLITHS (the correct spelling). I went to my doctor today after having a sore throat for about 2 weeks (very mild soreness), and all he did was simply squeeze the thing out with the wooden thinger. No big deal. Took less than 10 seconds and didn't hurt. He even told me that if it comes back in any shape, I could easily remove the thing myself with the end of a spoon handle. Maybe I just have weak gag reflex... But sounds like you guys are simply wasting money on bad-breath products :P

I've had tonsilliths for a few years. I have never used any breath products because I am able to pop the little suckers out myself...quite satisfying...I might add.
Technique: I open my mouth really wide like I'm yawning and stick my tongue out as much possible. Once in this position I look in a mirror and apply light pressure with a dampened Q-tip (or your cleanest finger!)around the area. If nothing budges, starting at the base of the crypts and moving up...may cause gagging at first.
I have also used a plastic syringe that I got from the oral surgeon to flush my wisdom teeth holes. I flush my cryptic tonsils with water.
Lovely, eh?
Good Luck!

I came across your blog while googling tonsilliths. For 20+ years I've had these nasty little things. I agree with some of the other posters, just use a cotton swab and pop it out.

popping out the tonsil stones might work for those who can see them, but I have flaps of skin which cover the tonsils so I can't see them. I went to an ENT because always fely something in my throat, deep, and was always clearing my throat. He saw some and recommended removal of the tonsils. Everyone from my dentist to chiropractor said to leave my tonsils alone, but this feeling is awful! I've heard now they can "seal" the crypts or "shave" the tonsils. I don't know what to do. I gag on the sinus drops and sprays that go way back.
