Testing Experience
Well, some good news. Today, I passed my driving test.
After the last fiasco I was REALLY nervous. I genuinely didn't see anyway to pass a driving test. I had failed already because of nerves and I was really nervous. Ipso facto, I was going to fail again. I was totally inconsable last night. Bless Jamie, he puts up with alot.
Anyway, after a long bath and hot chocolate before bed last night, I slept like a baby. But within 10 minutes of waking up I was fighting the nerves again.
My lesson started at 8:30, and as per usual it went without incident. You see, I'm a good driver, which is why the whole not having passed the test thing is annoying. So I drove fine and then we headed to the test centre.
The examiner I had was really chatty. Chatty is good, cos it's the silence in the car that makes me nervous. Then once I'd left the test centre without hitting anything I felt much better about the whole episode. I drove much better, generally watching my speed, slowing appropriately. My maneouvres were fantastic - in fairness no one does a better turn-in-the-raod than me, as is evidenced by no errors on my test report for that maneouvre. I also did the reverse into a parking space, which only ever goes right in the test. So about 10 minutes before the end, while waiting at some traffic lights I was convincing myself that I'd failed. I was sure that despite not having done anything that fails you outright, I would have enough minor erros to warrant a fail.
In the test centre car park after turning off the engine:
Examiner: [counting errors on sheet]
Hilary: [head in hands]
Examiner: Well, Hilary, I'm delighted to tell you that you've passed.
Hilary: [look of disbelief] Are you serious?
Examiner: [confused, cos he doesn't know how to joke] Yes.
So I am in a a state of pleasant shock, if such a thing exists.

woohoo! well done and congratulations Hilary!
Does this mean I won't have to drive on Sat?
You might have to drive! But I definitely can't. Rental companies like you to have a licesne for a year before they'll let you drive their cars - poo-poos.
ah well! we will just have to (wink, wink) NOT LET YOU DRIVE (wink, wink) then!
No, seriously, Jamie won't let me behind the wheel AT ALL!!
Well, done! I should really get around to taking some lessons and having another go at the test.
Congratulations Hilary - a very well done. I'm quite mellow today for some reason, zero reading on the invective scale. Must be coming down with something ....

Oh my god - red letter day. Gary commented on my site. We must be like best mates now :-)
he's probably suffering withdrawal as its impossible to leave comments at my site
stupid UL web server.
Not to imply that you aren't lovely enough to be Gary's friend or anything...
So how was the weekend visit of mgb? (Dear God, please let there be a story wherein the revenge of so many is delivered by so few ...)
And of course Hilary, we are obviously the bestest of mates - I have already offered to have mgb taken care of for you the next time he does something nasty to you (I do mean it, that the kicking vouchers are opened ended that is, some people are just incredibly thoughtful ..)
And just for future reference, anyone (insert adverb that closest relates your risk awareness profile) enough to chat to me is immediately "lovely enough" - jesus wept Mike, lovely?
Lovely ..... f*ckin lovely ...
